DSGMC senior member resigns from SAD-Badal

New Delhi, 9 December 2014: Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee’s senior member and former General Secretary, S. Gurmeet Singh Shunty, yesterday resigned from the primary membership of Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal). He requested party’s national President S. Sukhbir Singh Badal to accept it with immediate effect.

In his resignation, S. Gurmeet Singh Shunty has stated that it was his consistent efforts and strategy that SAD-Badal, which was pushed to margin in Delhi Sikh politics, got an unprecedented historic victory in the general elections to DSGMC in 2013. Mr. Shunty reminds the party’s national President Sukhbir Singh Badal that he (Mr. Shunty) was the person, who invited Manjeet Singh G.K. in the Executive Board meeting of the DSGMC on 15th November 2012, to expose the corrupt administration of the then President of DSGMC, Paramjit Singh Sarna and subsequently joined SAD-Badal.

He did all duties assigned to him by the party from time to time sincerely and diligently in the interest of the party. He further said that his one revolutionary step had made the historic victory of SAD-Badal in general election to DSGMC possible, otherwise before 15th November 2012 SAD-Badal could not even dream to achieve it. He said that after the victory, leaders of SAD-Badal not only started ignoring him but also so assertive by attacking him on political platforms directly and indirectly to demoralize him.

In the concluding paragraph of his resignation, Mr. Shunty further stated that it is a popular phrase used for SAD-Badal “for using a young emerging revolutionary leader in their favour and later dumping him.” He said that he experienced it as a member of SAD-Badal and found that it is not just a phrase but a reality. He also stated that the betrayal with the Sangat by SAD-Badal cannot be tolerated any more. He decided to resign from SAD-Badal and continue to serve the Sangat independently without having any burden on his consciousness.
