MHPS to Provide Core Equipment for Re-Expansion of Indonesia's Tanjung Jati B Coal-Fired Power Plant

- Wins Order to Supply Ultra-Supercritical Pressure Boilers and Electrostatic Precipitators for Units 5 and 6 -

Yokohama, Japan, Mar 31, 2017 - (ACN Newswire) - Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems, Ltd. (MHPS) has received an order to provide two ultra-supercritical-pressure boilers and four electrostatic precipitators for Units 5 and 6 of the Tanjung Jati B coal-fired power plant in Indonesia. The equipment on order will serve as the core of the ultra-supercritical-pressure coal-fired power facility, with each unit having an output capacity of 1,000 megawatts (MW). The equipment is scheduled to commence operations in 2021.

The Tanjung Jati B re-expansion project involves an independent power producer (IPP) supported by Sumitomo Corporation, Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc., and PT United Tractors Tbk, an affiliate company of Indonesia's PT Astra International Tbk conglomerate. Located in central Java, the Tanjung Jati B plant supplies power to PT PLN (Persero), Indonesia's state-owned electricity provider, under a long-term purchase agreement, established at the plant's inauguration. Units 5 and 6 will bolster the existing units (1 to 4), helping to meet strong energy demand in Indonesia.

MHPS previously delivered two boilers for the Units 3 and 4 of the plant, which were completed in 2011 and 2012 respectively. MHPS will be able to further contribute to the plant's stable operation with the two additional systems.

Demand for electric power in Indonesia is increasing rapidly, in line with the country's strong economic development. In response, the Indonesian Government is implementing an initiative to boost the country's power capacity by 35,000 MW. The large-scale project to expand the facilities at Tanjung Jati B represents a significant step towards meeting this goal.

MHPS has a strong track record in reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions through its highly efficient coal-fired power plants. Going forward, the Company will continue to proactively communicate and promote its strengths across a broad range of countries and regions, including Indonesia, highlighting its contribution to a stable energy supply, as well as significant environmental advantages.
