Lower Close As New York Manufacturing Contracts

A contraction in New York manufacturing activity weighed the markets down to a lower close with the Dow dropping 40 points to 13,553. Nasdaq slipped 8 points to 3178.
On the upside

In the broad market, declining issues outpaced advancers by a margin of nearly 7 to 3 on the NYSE and by nearly 5 to 3 on Nasdaq. The Russell 2000 which tracks small cap stocks fell 5 points to 858.
