Building a lasting career in the entertainment industry is never easy and for female professionals, it can be an even bigger challenge. Staying power in the industry was the topic of a recent evening event hosted by the National Association of Black Female Executives In Music & Entertainment (NABFEME). The theme of the evening was “Tap Into the Power” and it featured a panel of successful women who shared their stories and their advice for building careers with staying power.
One of the panelists was successful blogger and “Fashionpreneur” Tanya Major. Major joined fellow panelists Niija Kuykendall, vice president of films at Warner Brothers, and ASCAP’s Mir Harris. All three women spent the evening letting guests know how they navigated the often difficult world of the entertainment industry and how they were able to thrive and build lasting careers. Attendees wanted to know how Major and the other panelists achieved their accomplishments and were interested in knowing their secrets to success. For Major, the evening was both an opportunity to share her story, but also a learning experience. After the event, she said, “I was honored to be chosen as a panelist for this event. I shared, but I was also inspired by what the other panelists shared.”
The event took place on November 12, 2014 at the NABFEME LA Executive Suite in Beverly Hills and was hosted by Carolyn “Bree” Brown. Brown chose Major as one of the panelists due to her success as a fashion maven. Major began life as a blogger over four years ago when she started Major Must Haves, a blog that tells readers how to stay one step ahead of the latest fashion trends and always look stylish. Her blog quickly grew from a small, limited site to one with over 14,000 Instagram followers and 100,000 visitors. Her success led Major to appearances on ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, and CNN. She has also been featured in major publications like Hip Hop Weekly.
