Ms. Yellen’s Wild Ride: Stocks End Week Lower as Yellen Speech, Fischer Comments Spook Market

Stocks rose , stocks fell , and ultimately finished mixed today all thanks to Janet Yellen's speech at Jackson Hole today--and Stanley Fischer's comments after it . The S&P 500 fell 0.7% this week after dipping 0.2% to 2,169.04 today, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 0.8% this week after declining 53.01 points, or 0.3%, to 18,395.40. The Nasdaq Composite finished off 0.4% this week after gaining 0.1% to 5,218.92 today. The S&P 500 had been up as much as 0.7% today, and down as much as 0.6%. Barclays economist Antonio Garcia Pascual contends a rate hike could come as early as September, echoing Fed Vice Chairman Fischer's comments:
