The RM200 Computers Are Powerful Systems Wrapped in a Chic, 80s-Style Retro Case

By: Get News

Many people who work with computers today have the fondest memories of computers for the early 1980s like the IBM PC and the Commodore Vic 20 series. While almost no one wants to use the preposterously inferior computers of that age to perform modern operations, many still feel nostalgic about the bulky keyboards and off-color plastic casings. As a tribute to those retro computers, Amibyte would like to create new personal computers with modern features like i7 Intel CPUs, WiFi, and Windows 8 OS, but with the 80’s style casings and peripherals that will appeal to lovers of 80’s technology.

The RM200 series of computers and peripherals utilize modern, standard features like USB ports and Bluray readers, but are fitted into a retro style case that is modeled on the 8 bit home computers. Among the most endearing and appealing components is the RM200 keyboard which uses the old “Cherry” mechanism for keys and provides that immensely satisfying “click sound” when pressed.

RM200 systems are designed to evoke the 80’s look so has limited space and heat mitigation, but can include the following:

• Mini-itx motherboards
• Mini pc boards like Raspberry-Pi
• DVD or Bluray Slim Readers
• 2.5 or 3.5 in hard disk drives
• AMD, Intel or ARM processors
• Cooling fans

While Amibyte is confident that there is enormous demand for retro styled personal computers, the company still needs funds to mass produce the initial batch of RM200 systems. To raise the €15,000, Amibyte has sponsored a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo. In return for financially supporting this promising project, backers may receive perks like key chains, pen drives, sweatshirts, and RM200 systems.
