Ingersoll Rand (NYSE:IR), a world leader in creating and sustaining safe, comfortable and efficient environments, today announced that it has awarded certifications for 15 of its volunteer Green Teams, formally acknowledging their work on projects at company sites and in their local communities over the past year. The new certification program is part of a framework that supplies resources, processes and recognition to these employee teams. The goal is to encourage broader engagement in communities along with actions to reduce waste, water, and energy usage locally.
"Green Teams play a key role in our progress to minimize resource use in our factories and offices, but equally important, they are a way for employees to become involved in efforts that directly benefit their local workplace and community," noted W. Scott Tew, executive director, Center for Energy Efficiency and Sustainability at Ingersoll Rand (CEES). "We are proud to honor our first group of certified Green Teams for their accomplishments, and believe this recognition program will help raise visibility and drive more actions from these highly motivated employee teams. It's clear that workplace environmental and community projects help drive a more inclusive employee culture overall."
Additionally, results from an Ingersoll Rand internal survey indicate that employees who join Green Teams are more engaged and satisfied and more likely to refer a friend to the company for employment.
The term "green teams" reflects more than simple dedication to environmental protection - it also underscores the teams' origin as true grassroots movements that arise when employees find and act on an opportunity to improve local company operations or help their community. Green Team projects typically focus on reducing waste, greenhouse gas emissions, lowering water use, saving energy, and recycling. There are currently 87 active Green Teams across the company's global locations.
Three tiers of certification levels are recognized based on the extent of measured savings and actions achieved over a single year.
