PRLog - Feb. 11, 2014 - STUDIO CITY, Calif. -- Susie Castillo, Oxygen Network’s on-air personality, is the perfect host for this year’s 5K, not only because she is of Caribbean heritage, but also because the goal of this year’s run/walk matches her philosophy of empowering children through education.  As a co-host of the NBC series, School Pride, Susie used her Interior Architecture and Design degree to give neglected public schools a much-needed facelift and to empower communities across the country to help change America’s broken public education system.  Last year, Susie launched Pageantology.com, along with former Miss USA, Shandi Finnessey, a much-needed national empowerment workshop for young girls in the pageant industry. This year, the proceeds from the Every Child Matters 5K Run/Walk, which Susie will be hosting, will be used to support the building of the first-ever pre-school in the village of South Rivers on the Caribbean island of St. Vincent.

The Every Child Matters 5K Run/Walk is a five kilometer timed run that is sanctioned by the USA Track and Field - the National governing body for track and field, long-distance running and race walking in the United States.  Directed by Walt Waltson, a well-known race director in the Los Angeles area, the race will take place on Sunday, March 23, 2014 at 8:30 a.m. at the CBS Studio Center, 4024 Radford Avenue, Studio City - the home to many well known shows such as The Talk, Baby Daddy, Kirstie, The Exes, Seinfeld, CSI-NY, Big Brother, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, omg! Insider, and many more. The event organizers encourages the participation of families, schools, corporations and any and everyone to walk, run, dance, hop or skip with us.

Holding the view that the right school can provide "routine, nourishment and a guiding hand of responsible adults for under-served children," Rosie Hodge-Adams, Executive Director of Children of the Caribbean Foundation, is enthusiastic about this major under-taking of Children of the Caribbean Foundation in 2014.

"It's not so much about the brick and mortar aspect, but more about what the little children are able to gain.  A pre-school offers parents the ability to go out and seek employment by providing a safe place for their 2 1/2 - 5 year olds to be during the day" says Rosie.  "For a homeless child, school can become everything - the provider of meals, on-the-spot nursing care, security and substitute parenting."

The cost of early registration is $30 for adults, $20 for children over 9 years of age and $5 for children under 9 years old.  To take advantage of the early registration fees, you may register online or the event at: www.caribbeanchild.com or, at: Active.com - search "Every Child Matters" 5K Run/Walk.  On February 23, 2014, the fees are increased to $35 for adults and $25 for children over 9 years of age.
