American Water Named to the Dow Jones Utility Average

American Water Works Company Inc. (NYSE: AWK), the nation’s largest publicly traded water and wastewater utility company, announced today it will be added to the Dow Jones Utility Average after the close of trading on Tuesday, September 30, 2014. The changes will be effective with the opening of trading on Wednesday, October 1, 2014.

The Dow Jones Utility Average (“DJUA”) is a 15 member index that represents the stock performance of large, well known U.S. companies within the utilities sector. During its 78-year existence, there have only been three major reorganizations of the index and only 40 companies have been part of the Average since it was introduced in 1929.
