NYC Sisters Create ‘Get One, Give One’ Program to Inspire Shoppers and Help the Homeless – Spreading Love and Hope, One Hat at a Time
PRLog - Nov. 19, 2014 - NEW YORK -- The Hat Project™, created by Jennifer and Heather Bellizzi is stepping up to bring awareness to homelessness all across New York City and beyond. The mission, started by the Bellizzi sisters born and raised in NYC came about because they could no longer turn a blind eye to another person in need.

After seeing the enormous amount of homeless people at soup kitchen lines and examining the staggering statistics about just how bad homelessness was in their city (currently over 56,000 people in just NYC alone and rising) the two sisters decided to take action and it all begins with just one hat. “I have been helping the homeless since high school. I just needed to do something more,” said Heather Bellizzi, Co-founder of The Hat Project.

Through The Hat Project™, a “Get One, Give One” program, the sisters will raise awareness & funds using this vehicle to create change.  Each time someone wears a hat from The Hat Project™ - whether the hat was purchased or gifted from the program, they will be reminded of their specific intent or emotion of what they would like to bring into their lives each day for themselves and the recipient of the donated hat they funded...and when their hat is worn, they will remind others who see it, that people care, that things are never as impossible as they sometimes can seem and that there is always hope!

The Hat Project™ has partnered with shelters throughout NYC and is preparing for a big day on Thanksgiving Day at The Bowery Mission in Manhattan with a pledged donation of 2,000 Gratitude hats to be included in the Blessing Bags that are handed out that day.

The hats, which state words like Joy, Faith, Miracle & Gratitude aim to inspire positive change throughout New York City, keep a few heads & hearts warm and influence everyone that wears or sees the hats to become a-part-of the journey to help others and take care of each other near or far.
