Sallie Mae Partners with ‘The Money Coach’ For Twitter Chat on Paying for College

Sallie Mae, the nation’s saving, planning, and paying for college company, will join nationally recognized financial expert Lynnette Khalfani-Cox—The Money Coach and author of “College Secrets”—for a Twitter chat to discuss effective paying for college strategies. The #CollegeSecrets Twitter chat will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 14 at 12 p.m. EST.

Sallie Mae and Khalfani-Cox will provide tips and resources to help families fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), maximize scholarships and financial aid and manage any unexpected college costs. In addition, five chat participants chosen at random will receive a copy of Khalfani-Cox’s recently released book, “College Secrets,” which provides additional tips and resources to help students and parents reduce college expenses.

“For many families, college application season is in the rearview mirror, so now’s the time to start thinking about how to pay the upcoming tuition bill,” said Lynnette Khalfani-Cox, CEO of TheMoneyCoach.net. “Whether it’s finding free money for college, applying for financial aid or creating a budget to tackle other potential college costs, families should start planning today. I’m looking forward to joining Sallie Mae to shine a light on these important issues for college-bound families.”

“The Money Coach is right on the money: those families who have a plan to pay for college are best prepared to do just that,” said Temeka Easter, director of social media, Sallie Mae. “Open and frank conversations with families about this important topic is a major step in the right direction. We look forward to sharing our insights and expertise side by side with The Money Coach.”

When it comes to paying for college, Sallie Mae recommends following a 1-2-3 approach: students should maximize money that does not need to be repaid such as scholarships and grants; second, explore federal student loans; and, third, consider a responsible private education loan.

Free planning tools and resources including a comprehensive scholarship search tool and college planning calculator are available at SallieMae.com/PlanforCollege. Follow the Twitter chat using the hashtag #CollegeSecrets.
