Eight Straight BattleFrog Wins for Atkins Adds to Impressive Multi-Sport Haul
PRLog - July 26, 2015 - BOSTON -- Make it eight straight BattleFrog wins for Ryan Atkins. The Canadian professional Obstacle Racer, mountain runner and endurance athlete has taken yet another 2015 title, just one week after winning the grueling 50-mile North Face Endurance Challenge Series in Ontario, Canada. This weekend's BattleFrog win brings Atkins to 15 OCR victories in 2015, plus two other endurance race wins. Meanwhile, Lindsay Webster, Atkins’ fiancée, added to her own growing list of titles with her 4th BattleFrog win of the year, trailed closely by elite racers Claude Godbout and Corinna Coffin. Ms. Webster, in just her first competitive year, now has 8 OCR victories, plus titles in two other endurance events.
“What a beautiful morning,” said Atkins of his finish. “The Carter & Stevens Farm is a beautiful place to run, and the BattleFrog designers got it just right with the obstacles and the terrain. When you get such nice scenery it’s easier, we were all digging hard and having fun. I got a little gap at the Platinum Rig and just kind of ran it out from there.”
BattleFrog CEO Ramiro Ortiz was impressed by what he saw. “As a sports historian and as a fan, when you see a truly special athlete, you know it,” said Ortiz, “Ryan Atkins is winning races at every distance, every terrain, every climate. This young man is very special.”
The BattleFrog New England course clocked in at 8 kilometers, with twenty-five obstacles situated into the rolling hills of Stevens and Carter farm in the Town of Barre, Massachusetts. Set adjacent to protected wetlands, this working cattle farm features mountain vistas, rolling hills and miles of lush green fields. Noteworthy obstacles included BattleFrog’s famous Tip of the Spear, in which racers traverse a slanted wall sideways using ropes, “Mounds of Grounds™” a series of mud and dirt dunes covered in Puroast-brand Coffees, the quarter mile Wreck Bag™ carry, a thirty-foot Delta ladder and the Tsunami water-slide.
“We were thrilled to have BattleFrog here, they run a wonderful, professional event,” said Carter and Stevens Farm owner Phil Stevens. “I saw a lot of smiling faces and kept hearing how accomplished participants felt. My own grandkids ran and they’re still showing off their medals and shirts. There were a lot of youngsters running. It was wonderful to see so many people enjoying the farm on a summer day with their friends and families.”
The course also featured the debut of BattleFrog’s newest obstacle, The BattleFrog Platinum Rig, featuring the largest footprint of any custom rig made by Platinum Rig – the industry leader. This challenging obstacle not only requires physical exertion, but also a creative mental approach and sometimes, teamwork. “Platinum Rig was a new experience for most runners, they really had to stop and figure out a path,” said BattleFrog’s Race Director and Course Designer, Chris Acord. “It was fun because a few of the elite runners failed, and then later in the day you would see teenagers and people in their mid-fifties fly through. It really created a fun atmosphere and teamwork. Parents with their kids working together, it was terrific.”
Atkins and Webster each took home $2,000.00, the top Finisher’s prizes in the Elite Male and Female categories, with a total event purse of $18,500.00. BattleFrog also paid prizes in its over-40 “Masters” category, with Rob Butler and Elvy Lapointe finishing atop the Leaderboard Board, taking home $1,000.00 and a BattleFrog Elite Challenge Coin. In the BattleFrog Extreme, Jason Soukop and Morgan McKay took home the coveted BFX Padde with 7 laps (56km) and 5 laps (40KM) of the entire BattleFrog course completed, respectively.
Ten of the top 26 money finishers were Canadian, as OCR continues to grow in popularity throughout North America.
