Markets soar on recovering crude oil prices

Recovering crude oil prices lifted the markets during the midday with the Dow soaring 146 points to 17,391. Nasdaq gained 25 points to 4,953.

On the downside

Investors continued to lock in profits on Sophiris Bio (Nasdaq: SPHS).

Profit taking weighed down shares of SunEdison (NYSE: SUNE).

Dilliard’s (NYSE: DDS) disappointed with lower third quarter earnings and revenue that fell short of analyst expectations.

In the broad market, advancing issues outpaced decliners by a margin of more than 3 to 2 on the NYSE while decliners edged out advancers by nearly 10 to 9 on Nasdaq. The broader S&P 500 climbed 17 points to 2,040. Bitcoin gained $10 to $328.
