Divergent Technologies Wins Popular Science “Best of What’s New” Award

Divergent Technologies today announced it has won Popular Science’s “Best of What’s New” award in the Auto category for Blade, the world’s first 3D-printed supercar. Each year, Popular Science reviews thousands of new products and innovations. The top 100 winners are chosen across 10 categories and are featured in Popular Science’s “Best of What’s New” December issue.

“The ‘Best of What’s New’ awards honor the innovations that surprise and amaze us—those that challenge our view of what’s possible in the future,” said Cliff Ransom, Editor-in-Chief of Popular Science. “The award is Popular Science’s top prize, and the 100 winners—chosen from among thousands of nominees—are each a revolution in their respective fields.”

Divergent Technologies’ Blade is one of the greenest and most powerful cars ever created. Blade is equipped with a 700-horsepower bi-fuel engine that can use either compressed natural gas or gasoline, goes from 0-60 in about two seconds, and weighs around 1,400 pounds. Built using the company’s proprietary manufacturing platform that incorporates 3D-printed nodes connected by carbon fiber tubing, Blade’s industrial strength chassis can be assembled in a matter of minutes and is up to 90% lighter than traditional cars, despite being much stronger and more durable. This results in better fuel economy and less wear on roads. Ultimately, Divergent’s disruptive approach radically reduces the pollution and production costs associated with traditional automobile manufacturing.

“Blade represents what is possible for car manufacturing not in the future, but right now,” said Kevin Czinger, founder & CEO, Divergent Technologies. “We have developed a sustainable path forward for the auto manufacturing industry that will reduce its damaging health and environmental impacts, while still resulting in beautiful, powerful, sophisticated vehicles. To be recognized by Popular Science for our innovation is a great honor and we remain committed to working toward a cleaner, greener planet.”

The Popular Science “Best of What’s New” December issue is currently on newsstands.
