Dr. English will consult with NPIC/QAS leadership and staff on quality improvement projects and analyses undertaken by the Center. He will be available to engage with clinical leadership at member and contracted hospitals to support their use of NPIC/QAS services to improve quality and reduce costs. Dr. English will assist with outreach to industry partners to demonstrate the value of comparative perinatal data in improving care to mothers and infants.
Dr. English is Board Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He completed a Master of Medical Management degree at Carnegie Mellon University in 1999. He is a Fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and a diplomat of the American College of Physician Executives.
Prior to retiring from clinical practice, Dr. English served as Vice Chairman of Clinical Operations for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Dr. English is a Clinical Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology (emeritus). During his tenure at Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC, he served as the Vice President of Medical Affairs, Chief Medical Officer, Medical Director for Quality Improvement and Patient Safety and Physician Advisor to the Health Management Department.
Dr. English received a Bachelor of Science degree from Penn State University 1972 followed by his MD degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1976. He completed his Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency at Magee-Womens Hospital in 1980, serving as Chief Resident from 1979-1980.
Dr. English currently serves on the Board of Directors of Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC and has served on the Board of the NPIC/QAS since 2013.
