Werner Enterprises Team Wins Big at GATS

Werner Enterprises (NASDAQ: WERN), a premier transportation and logistics provider, represented strongly at this year’s Great American Trucking Show in Dallas, Texas, Aug. 25-27. Freedom 7 driver J.W. Ray took first in Overdrive’s Pride and Polish competition with Werner’s 2017 Operation Freedom Freightliner Cascadia winning in the New Bobtail division.

Werner driver Chris Crowell won the 2016 Trucking’s Top Rookie Award, earning him $10,000 and other prizes. Crowell, a 13-year Army veteran, had three deployments for Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom and received a Bronze Star before transitioning to a career in the trucking industry.

Werner drivers Troy Davidson and Eli Tollinchi were named top 10 finalists for the 2016 Transition Trucking: Driving for Excellence Award. Davidson, a U.S. Navy veteran, was named a top three finalist in the recognition program. The winner will be announced in December and will receive a Kenworth T680 76-inch sleeper. The contest is a joint effort of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Hiring Our Heroes Program, Kenworth and Fastport.

As a military friendly employer, Werner has hired more than 9,300 veterans since 2011 and more than 480 veteran spouses since May 2013. Werner has pledged to hire 2,000 veterans in 2016.
