Markets Open Lower Despite Higher Exports To China

Despite a surge in exports to China, the markets opend lower with the Dow easing a point to 10,616. Nasdaq fell 9 points to 2307.

On the upside

Pacific Ethanol (Nasdaq: PEIX) reopened its ethanol plant in Burley, Idaho after sitting idle for nearly a year due to depressed market conditions.

McMoRan Exploration (NYSE: MMR) discovered gas at its Davy Jones ultra-deep prospect in the Gulf of Mexico.

Tuesday Morning (Nasdaq: TUES) forecast higher second quarter earnings well above expectations as same store sales rose.

On the downside

Associated Banc-Corp (Nasdaq: ASBC) blamed charges for swinging to a fourth quarter loss. The company will offer $400 million worth of common stock

Cyclacel Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: CYCC) will raise approximately $7.2 million through a registered direct offering.

Heineken will acquire Mexico's second largest brewery Femsa (NYSE: FMX) in an all stock deal valued at $5.5 billion. However, Femsa stock dropped.

In the broad market, advancing issues outpaced decliners by a margin of nearly 7 to 5 on the NYSE while decliners edgd out advancers by nearly 5 to 4 on Nasdaq. The Russell 2000 which tracks small cap stocks slipped a point to 642.
