Markets Open Higher As Economy Expands At Quick Pace

The markets opened higher with the Dow gaining 66 points to 10,186 as the nation's economy expanded at its quickest pace in six years. Nasdaq climbed 19 points to 2198.

On the upside

Fourth quarter earnings for PMC-Sierra (Nasdaq: PMCS) nearly doubled as revenue rose and the company expects first quarter revenue to top estimates.

Synovus Financial (NYSE: SNV) narrowed fourth quarter losses and forecast a profitable 2010.

Juniper Networks (NYSE: JNPR) reported a small dip in fourth quarter earnings but revenue rose to surpass expectations.

On the downside

Yucheng Technologies (Nasdaq: YTEC) swung to a fourth quarter loss as revenue tumbled.

Seanergy Maritime Holdings (Nasdaq: SHIP) priced its offering of more than 20 million common shares at $1.20 per share, a sharp discount over yesterday's closing price.

SanDisk (Nasdaq: SNDK) reversed year ago losses to post a profit for the fourth quarter that beat expectations by a wide margin but the flash memory maker offered a disappointing outlook.

In the broad market, advancing issues outpaced decliners by a margin of 2 to 1 on the NYSE and by more than 3 to 1 on Nasdaq. The Russell 2000 which tracks small cap stocks rose 3 points to 611.
