European stocks open higher; BP up 4% in London

European stocks rose early Friday, drawing some optimism from Wall Street’s late-session comeback, as shares of BP rallied on news that the energy giant has finally managed to stop the flow of crude from its ruptured well into the Gulf of Mexico.
