American Express Profit Beats On Strong Spending
American Express' (AXP) Q1 results exceeded predictions on robust spending by cardholders, and cuts to rewards and promotions costs that kept expenses in check. Earnings rose 10% to $1.07 a share, 7 cents better than views, on revenue of $7.61 billion, up 8% from a year ago and better than expectations of $7.58 billion.
