LifeLine Ambulance Executives awarded the Maritime Medal of Valor by Massachusetts Maritime Academy.

PRLog - Jun 01, 2013 - WOBURN, Mass. -- LifeLine Ambulance Service (www.lifelineamb.com), the region’s fastest growing ambulance company and healthcare service, was honored at a recent reception at Mass Maritime Academy in Buzzards Bay, for its donations and support in the public/private partnership between LifeLine and the Academy which has resulted in the creation of MMA EMS (Massachusetts Maritime Academy Emergency Medical Service).

Brian J. Connor, CEO of LifeLine Ambulance Service and Robert J. Roderick, Senior Vice President, were both awarded the Maritime Medal of Valor by Admiral Richard Gurnon, President of the Academy.  This award was presented in honor of their outstanding commitment and dedication to the founding of the Academy’s Emergency Medical Services Program.   Dr. Jeff Sukor, the ship’s physician, was among those who cited LifeLine’s key role in bringing this program forward. “A year and a half ago, the idea of MMA EMS was a concept – an exchange of emails, and today it is the first student operated transporting ambulance service collegiate EMS programs in the state.”

The ceremony also featured a ribbon-cutting that officially unveiled the LifeLine donated vehicles that make up MMA EMS. There is a Class I Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulance, a Class V ambulance and a golf cart ambulance - all intended for use over different areas of the campus. LifeLine retrofitted, painted and donated all three vehicles to Mass Maritime, and provided EMT training for the cadets.  The ambulance carries the most modern basic life support equipment for use by the Academy's emergency medical technicians, including personal protective equipment, medical and trauma equipment, an automated external defibrillator, and onboard oxygen and suction systems. LifeLine further donated six AED (automatic external defibrillators) to be used aboard the Maritime Academy’s ship, Kennedy.

The EMS program has 33 student EMT members and over 90 students indicating their wish to become EMTs during the next school year.  Additionally, the Academy was recognized nationally for their EMS program in Virginia at the EMS Collegiate Conference.

Connor said, “It is an honor for us to have been part of the founding of the MMA EMS Program from its initial meeting to its implementation. We have employed some Mass Maritime students at LifeLine who inspired us to assist in their dream and we have also been inspired by the school’s leadership commitment to make this program a success.  We look for to assisting them for many years to come”
