New book provides practical resources for teachers in helping close student achievement gaps
PRLog - Apr. 11, 2014 - WESMINSTER, Md. -- Susan M. Riley, author of the new book, No Permission Required: Bringing STEAM to Life in K-12 Schools, is helping educators to bring creativity into the popular STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) teaching approach.  Her latest book, slated to be released on May 1, 2014, shares the process for integrating the Arts with STEM as a way to bring excitement and meaningful learning to all students.

“Educators are nervous about using the arts in their classrooms to teach subjects like math and science,” states Riley. “This book helps them to realize the power of taking time to partner the arts and these subjects with integrity.  By bringing the Arts to STEM, we can increase student success and provide meaningful learning experiences to help develop skills that will be critical to a 21st century global economy.  This resource shares practical ways teachers can use this approach in their own classrooms.”

Readers of the book will find case studies featuring schools currently using STEAM in rural, suburban and urban areas, as well as fully-developed STEAM strategies, lesson plans and assessments in grades K-12.

Susan M. Riley is an arts integration specialist and founder of EducationCloset.com, an online resource for integrated and innovative teaching.  A former music teacher, she is committed to supporting teachers in using creativity to reach and teach all children.  Read more at http://educationcloset.com/no-permission-required/.
