Country-Rock Band’s New Record Offers Hard Lesson in Lost Love
PRLog - Jun. 24, 2014 - LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- A casual conversation with a drunken stranger in a Nashville bar was the inspiration behind Drownin’ My Misery (Bell Bottom Records), the new single from country-rock band Burnin’.

“I had just finished playing, and there was this guy at the bar who was really hammered,” said front man Billy Keane. “He said ‘I love your music, and I wish my chick was here, but I kind of messed up.’ I wrote the song about a week later. It’s about a guy who cheats on his girlfriend, and now he’s drowning his sorrow, because he knows he blew it.”

Musically, Keane describes Drownin’ My Misery as a cross between Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Rolling Stones. The song has a hard-driving beat and lyrics that are simple and to-the-point:

“Where did all your feelings go / Yeah, I made a mistake, I know / Sorry it turned out this way / I’m drinking in a bar in Nashville.”

Keane, a Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter, enlisted help from other established musicians to record Drownin’ My Misery. Blake English, who plays lead guitar, has worked with Brandy. Bass player Joe Caccavo has worked with The Temptations. Keyboard player Clarence Allen has recorded with Puff Daddy and Brandy. Drummer Jimmy Keegon has performed with Carlos Santana, Kenny Loggins and other well-known artists.

Keane, who previously released the single 7 O’Clock, was born in Los Angeles, but grew up in Fresno, California, where country music is popular. Creatively, he was influenced early in life by his mother, a singer and clarinet player, and his Uncle Allen, who was the music coordinator for the Fresno Unified School District. Perhaps his greatest professional influence was his Uncle Walter Keane, the acclaimed and controversial artist, whose life story will be told in the upcoming movie Big Eyes, directed by Tim Burton.

“I was already interested in music, but Uncle Walter was the one who encouraged me to pursue it professionally,” Keane said. “He always said ‘Love what you do, and do it every day.’ That always stuck with me.”
