Vivint Appoints Top Federal Security Executive Joe Albaugh as Chief Security Officer

Vivint, Inc., the largest home automation services provider in North America, today announced that Joe Albaugh has joined the company as chief security officer. Albaugh brings 20 years of experience to this role, including past positions as chief information security officer for three large, critical infrastructure agencies of the U.S. government. As chief security officer, Albaugh will direct the security strategy and initiatives across all areas of the company.

Before joining Vivint, Albaugh was the chief information security officer for the U.S. Department of Transportation, overseeing the information assurance and cyber security efforts within the department, including more than 440 information systems and 100,000 people. Prior to this role, Albaugh was the chief information security officer for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), where he helped redesign the organization’s cyber security program.

“Joe is an accomplished security executive who has spent his career building sophisticated cyber security teams and programs,” said Alex Dunn, president of Vivint. “His experience across multiple sectors will be a tremendous asset for us as we protect our customers and our business.”

Before joining the FAA, Albaugh was the chief information security officer and acting chief information officer for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, where he managed a more than $400 million global information technology program. He has also served as a senior manager in BearingPoint’s Public Services Solutions Group, where he led the security solution practices for Foreign Affairs and Federal Healthcare.

“Vivint has always been committed to protecting its customers by safeguarding their homes and data,” said Albaugh. “In my new role, I look forward to extending that commitment and setting a new standard for the home automation and security industry.”

Albaugh received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of Maryland and a master’s degree in information assurance from Norwich University. He completed executive education programs at the Yale School of Management and the Federal Executive Institute. Albaugh has also been an active general aviation pilot for the past 16 years.
