Preferred Technology and Dow Announce Increased Production of DustPRO Proppant

Preferred Technology, an affiliate of Preferred Sands, which is one of North America’s leading proppant technology companies, and The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE:DOW), today announced the increased production and capacity of DustPRO™, the only cost-effective preventative proppant solution that limits silica dust exposure and meets all current and proposed OSHA standards. The companies are increasing production to service customer demand as a direct result of multiple successful wells, which found all air sampling around workers to be below both the current and proposed OSHA standards for silica sand permissible exposure limits.

The DustPRO™ patent-pending application system is a cost-effective, preventative solution that helps control respirable silica and fugitive dust through all sand transfer points in the proppant supply chain. This solution features Dow’s patent-pending Preferred DC™ technology. The proprietary DustPRO™ application systems are now operational at Preferred’s terminal in Henderson, Colo. and at Preferred Sands of Genoa, NE. Additional installations are underway at Preferred Sands of Blair, Wis. and Sanders, AZ. DustPRO™ can be applied at the sand origin site or at a distribution terminal. The system increases well-site efficiency and safety by eliminating the need for bulky mechanical silica dust collection apparatus.

“With Dow, our team created DustPRO™ as a solution for limiting silica dust exposure during all sand transfer points,” said Michael O’Neill, founder and CEO of Preferred Technology. “This is the only cost-effective and preventative solution on the market that addresses silica dust. As an innovative company within the industry, we are proud to increase its availability in key markets across North America through the remainder of 2014 and beyond. Now more than ever, our customers are looking for sustainable products and we are proud to be part of that movement.”

In addition to the new Preferred coating sites, the company is working with customers to place DustPRO™ units directly into their facilities. Preferred and Dow have significantly increased DustPRO™ capacity and will continue to ramp throughout 2014.

“We enjoy working with an innovative company like Preferred Technology, and we’re pleased to be able to quickly create our Preferred DC™ technology to be a safe and sustainable solution for the hydraulic fracturing industry,” said Joan Hoffmeier Gorrell, North American Business Director for Dow Consumer and Industrial Solutions. Dow offers a range of innovative, customized and tested solutions designed to meet the ever-changing needs of the oil and gas industry.
