Hiring slows as U.S. adds 142,000 jobs in August

Hiring in the United States slowed in August as the economy created just 142,000 jobs, marking the smallest gain since December. That ended a six-month streak in which the U.S. added at least 200,000 jobs a month, the best stretch of job creation since 2006.
