Ventev’s New TerraWave Handrail and Guardrail Antennas Bring Seamless Wi-Fi to Mobile Users in Large Public Venues

Ventev Wireless Infrastructure, a division of TESSCO Technologies Incorporated (NASDAQ: TESS), today introduced two innovative new antennas to its TerraWave portfolio that can dramatically improve Wi-Fi coverage and capacity in large public venues such as stadiums, arenas and concert halls.

Mobile device users expect internet connectivity everywhere including stadiums where watching instant replays or sharing photos on social media greatly enhance fans’ enjoyment of the event. But with thousands of users connecting to the network simultaneously, providing adequate capacity to all is a challenge for network administrators. Stadiums with open roofs and arenas with very high ceilings are especially difficult because mounting options for antennas and access points are limited and located too far from the lower rows of users to provide adequate coverage and capacity. Finally, obstacles such as columns, seats and even people can block RF propagation.

Ventev, a leading manufacturer of Wi-Fi products and solutions, offers a solution for these unique challenges with two new antennas that can be installed on handrails and guardrails, close to the users.

Handrail Antenna – The small form factor Handrail Antenna measures 8.5” x 6.9” x 3” and easily fits most handrails without impacting Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements. Secured within a compact, watertight polycarbonate enclosure, the antenna is a dual-band, 3 dBi directional antenna with a 60/90 degree beamwidth. The enclosure attaches to the handrail with a pipe mount and stainless steel fasteners and includes four low-loss cables with RPSMA or RPTNC connectors to connect to the access point.

Guardrail Antenna – The slim Guardrail Antenna measures 8” x 10” x 2” and consists of a dual-band 3 dBi antenna housed within a rugged, impact-resistant polycarbonate enclosure. The internal antenna is field-adjustable with a +/- 20 degree tilt for precise coverage. It installs easily to any guardrail with stainless steel fasteners. Four low-loss cables with RPSMA or RPTNC connectors connect to the access point.
