4 time Stroke Survivor Reunites with 9 year old Pediatric Stroke Survivor Brendon Spear
PRLog - Sep. 24, 2014 - ST. LOUIS -- While on a break from his Portland to Portland walk, 63-year-old Mycle Brandy is on schedule to participate in the 8th Annual Brendon's Smile Rally/Walk at Bishop DuBourg High School in St. Louis, on Saturday, September 27th. Brandy, a four-time stroke survivor, first met Brendon Spear on his first walk across America in 2010. Spear suffered a perinatal stroke before birth and Brendon's Smile organization was formed, by his mother Jessica Helwig Spear, to raise awareness and knowledge about strokes in the unborn, newborns and children. Both Brandy and Spear had an immediate connection and look forward to this four year reunion.

Brandy strives to inspire stroke survivors everywhere to keep up with their recovery exercise, along with how to prevent another stroke. “Every year, nearly 800,000 people have a stroke. That is one every 40 seconds,” said Brandy. “But in most cases, it’s preventable by lifestyle changes such as exercise and proper nutrition.” The leading causes of stroke are high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes and smoking.

According to the US National Library of Medicine, ".. an estimated incidence of 1 in 2300 to 5000 births, stroke is more likely to occur in the perinatal period than at any time in childhood. The incidence of ischemic perinatal stroke ranks second only to that of strokes in the elderly population."

On Saturday, September 27th, Brendon's Smile Rally/Walk will begin at 9:30 AM in the outdoor common area next to the track and field section of Bishop DuBourg High School, located at 5850 Eichelberger Street, in St Louis, Missouri. The walk begins at 11:15 AM on the location's circuit track. This year's 8th annual event will honor children affected by this phenomenon and boasts local celebrities, such as Tess Boyer, from Season 6 of The Voice who will be singing the National Anthem, Harry Hamm, KMOX Radio Personality and Entertainment Editor, and other local businesses and food sponsors.
