PRLog - Oct. 28, 2014 - DETROIT -- Imagine a world in which every device in the home, workplace and car are connected. A world where the garage door opens and the light goes on automatically as your car approaches your driveway, where morning coffee starts brewing when the alarm goes off, where the door of your house unlocks when approached by a member of your family but stays locked if approached by strangers, and where your car can talk to another car a quarter mile ahead on the freeway to warn of an accident so you have time to exit for an alternative route. These are examples of the opportunities made available to us by the ‘Internet of Things’ (IoT) and will be part of the discussion during Mobile Monday Detroit’s exploration of the topic on Monday, November 10th at 6:00 p.m. at NextWave Accelerator in Troy.

Putting it into perspective, the ‘Internet of Things’ will be the largest device market in the world; by 2019 it will more than double the size of the Smartphone, PC, tablet, Connected Car and Wearables market COMBINED (BI Intelligence). To understand its’ impact, consider the following:

-  IoT will result in $1.7 Trillion in value-added to the global economy in 2019; this includes: hardware, software, installation costs, management services, and economic value added from realized IoT efficiencies (BI Intellligence)

-  The total market for IoT solutions will be $7.1 Trillion by 2020 (IDC)

-  54% of manufacturing industry decision-makers consider expansion of IoT initiatives a critical priority and 36% have already implemented such initiatives (Forrester)

-  By the end of 2020 the ‘Internet of Things’ will be approximately 212 billion ‘things’(IDC) or in other words, 30 ‘things’ for each of the 7 billion people in the world

Topics discussed at this event will include:

-  An introduction to, and history of, the ‘Internet of Things’ (IoT)
-  Synergies between IoT, wearables, and mobile devices
-  Business opportunities around IoT; scale of the market
-  API solutions to help us realize the full potential of IoT
-  Securing IoT; mobile challenges and realities

Presenters include:

-  Itai Ben-Gal, CEO/Co-founder, iRule
-  Brian Mulloy, VP – Products, Apigee
-  Mark Stanislav, Security Project Manager, Duo Security

The evening’s program will take place at the NextWave America Accelerator in Troy with refreshments provided compliments of event sponsor SilkRoute Global.
