Putting it into perspective, the ‘Internet of Things’ will be the largest device market in the world; by 2019 it will more than double the size of the Smartphone, PC, tablet, Connected Car and Wearables market COMBINED (BI Intelligence). To understand its’ impact, consider the following:
- IoT will result in $1.7 Trillion in value-added to the global economy in 2019; this includes: hardware, software, installation costs, management services, and economic value added from realized IoT efficiencies (BI Intellligence)
- The total market for IoT solutions will be $7.1 Trillion by 2020 (IDC)
- 54% of manufacturing industry decision-makers consider expansion of IoT initiatives a critical priority and 36% have already implemented such initiatives (Forrester)
- By the end of 2020 the ‘Internet of Things’ will be approximately 212 billion ‘things’(IDC) or in other words, 30 ‘things’ for each of the 7 billion people in the world
