Children Today - Caring for the Homeless

By: PRLog
PRLog - Dec. 11, 2014 - LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Seventeen years ago, Children Today was founded by two working mothers after they witnessed a toddler wandering alone in a street wearing nothing but a diaper. This haunting image of homelessness inspired the creation of Children Today.

In 2000, the co-founders opened The Play House West - a free, licensed, comprehensive child development facility for homeless children aged between six weeks and six years old. Eight years later, The Play House North was founded to help even more children.

This year, Children Today invites you to participate it their 17th annual Holiday Cheer event on Friday Dec. 5, 2014. You can shop, drink, eat, dance and enjoy the night while knowing you’re contributing to a great cause.

Since the founding of Children Today, the non-profit has expanded its reach and now aims to serve both parents and children who are involved in the child welfare system. The Play House Programs today are designed to meet the needs of the children who have experienced significant trauma; however, the programs are also set up to be flexible around family and support parents as well.

Children Today relies on help from partners, such as No More Poverty and co-founder Julian Omidi, and individuals such as yourself. While the non-profit does its best to ensure children have a place to stay while their parents work their way of out homelessness, the organization can only help when it has the resources to do so. If you’d like to help or donate this holiday season, learn more at Children Today’s website.
