DSDA Helps Diverse Business Accelerate Growth with Travelers as Funding Sponsor

By: PRLog
The DSDA offers educational and mentoring support to women and minority businesses in Connecticut. Travelers is a welcome partner in these efforts, joining United Illuminating and Eversource Energy (formerly Northeast Utilities) in bringing their extensive experience to help minority businesses.
PRLog - Feb. 26, 2015 - HARTFORD, Conn. -- The Diverse Supplier Development Academy (DSDA), a Connecticut non-profit organization that works to develop opportunities for diverse Connecticut-based suppliers, is honored to announce the addition of The Travelers Companies, Inc. as a funding sponsor.

We are excited to see the momentum grow,” explained Ronald C. Licata, Executive Director of the DSDA. “Not only is the addition of Travelers as a funding sponsor critically important to our efforts, but also Travelers has a long history of supporting women and minority business owners. They recognize the importance of minority suppliers to the growth and stability of the Connecticut economy.”

One way Travelers will be supporting the DSDA is by hosting a safety risk education workshop for DSDA clients. The workshop is designed to help women and minority business owners learn about some of the safety hazards and liabilities of operating a small business and develop safety risk management plans that will help reduce or prevent the hazards and potential loss.

Travelers is actively working to increase the diversity of its suppliers, which benefits our business by strengthening the supply chain and increasing innovation,” said Jim Scannell, Travelers Senior Vice President, Administrative Services. “Our goal in supporting DSDA is to give minority-owned and women-owned businesses the opportunity to be successful, which in turn stimulates growth in the local economy.”

Travelers has been recognized as one of the “World’s Most Admired Companies” by Fortune magazine since 2006 and was named “Outstanding Corporate Citizen” by the Urban League in 2012. It has appeared on the list of 25 Noteworthy Companies in DiversityInc for the last two years and has achieved the rank of 90 on the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index.

Corporations interested in partnering with the DSDA may contact Executive Director Ron Licata at ronlicata@dsdact.org.
