GSE Systems Presents on Severe Accident Simulation at Two Nuclear Research Conferences

Global energy industry performance improvement company GSE Systems, Inc. (NYSE MKT:GVP) (“GSE”) today announced presentations at nuclear research conferences by two of its simulation experts. Gill Grady, Senior Vice President of GSE, gave a presentation at the European Commission Joint Research Centre’s (JRC) workshop on severe accident simulators for nuclear power plants on March 3. Clay Lietwiler, Engineering Supervisor, will be presenting at the Electric Power Research Institute’s (EPRI) Modular Accident Analysis Program (MAAP) Users Group conference on March 17.

Mr. Grady gave a presentation at the JRC workshop titled, “Severe Accident Simulator – Improving Human Performance in Accident Management.” It addressed current industry and regulatory perspectives on use of severe accident simulation in training as well as trends in the technology’s use, including in GSE’s DesignEP™ platform. The conference was held in the Netherlands on March 2-3.

“We all recognize the need for better training for beyond design-basis events. An interactive simulation tool based upon industry-recognized severe accident models provides both a realistic training environment as well as a tool to test the effectiveness of severe accident mitigation guidelines,” said Mr. Grady. “The goal is to provide realistic, cost effective training, which can apply to both control room operators as well as the broader emergency response staff.”

At the MAAP Users Group meeting, Lietwiler will give a presentation titled, “Use of MAAP in a Full-Scope or Engineering Simulator.” He will discuss how integrating EPRI’s MAAP code into a real-time simulation environment provides realistic plant behavior for training and engineering. It also enables operators to assess and experiment with different accident scenarios and practice severe accident management guidelines. The conference will be held from March 17-19 at the EDF Chateau Site in Paris, France.
