Shares of NeoPhotonics (NYSE: NPTN) extended its gains from yesterday when Raymond James upgraded the company from a Market Perform rating to an Outperform rating.
On the downside
Falling crude oil prices weighed down shares of oilfield services provider Weatherford International (NYSE: WFT).
Although Cloud Peak Energy (NYSE: CLD) met financial benchmarks to qualify for self-bonding, the stock price fell as rival coal producers faced the possibility of sharply higher insurance premiums.
Profit taking continued to sink shares of Galena Biopharm (Nasdaq: GALE).
In the broad market, declining issues outpaced advancers by a margin of more than 5 to 3 on the NYSE and by 7 to 5 on Nasdaq. The broader S&P 500 dropped 14 points to 2094. Bitcoin added $1 to $230.
