One recent cohort study has shown viable data indicating that spinal manipulation is a viable spinal surgery alternative. J Bone Joint Surg 2008;90B:Suppl.492., which was held in Great Britain, showed that patients receiving spinal manipulation treatments while waiting for their surgery date showed encouraging results of reducing the need for surgery. In this study, 102 patients were researched. Each patient was waiting to see a surgeon for the correction of herniated discs and sciatic leg pain after the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) after at least four weeks of pain. These patients were given adjustments five times a week while on the surgery waiting list. Of these 102 patients that were given adjustments, three of the treatments were failures and a few patients saw increased pain.
