From 2007 to 2014, the Netherlands was a net importer of pineapples. Over this period, imports consistently exceeded exports in value terms, except for 2009 when exports exceeded imports. In physical terms, the difference was the same.
The Philippines and Belgium were among the other main global suppliers of pineapples in 2014. However, the fastest growing exporters from 2007 to 2014 were the Philippines (+14% per year) and Mexico (+6% per year). The Philippines significantly strengthened its position in the global export structure.
In 2014, the Netherlands’s top 5 trading partners were Germany, France, Belgium, Ireland and Italy, with a combined share 64% of the Netherlands’s pineapple exports. The share of Ireland increased (+7 percentage points), while the share of Italy illustrated negative dynamics (-6 percentage points).
