Dayton area sportscasters and NCAA watchers are noting that the opening games of March Madness coincide with the Ohio Presidential Primary, leading to speculation of a possible presidential visit.

First Four March Madness Tickets May Offer Lots More Than Basketball

With just six weeks left until the start of the NCAA First Four in Dayton, local media and others are speculating on which candidates will be on the floor – and in the stands. Some have even suggested that the President himself might be queuing up for NCAA First Four tickets. If he does, the president won’t have to fight to find NCAA basketball tickets. Everyday fans, on the other hand, may not be so lucky.

Tickets for the March 15 and 16 NCAA First Four games in Dayton, Ohio, went on sale way back in October, and they’ve been snapped up at record rates by eager fans. Even the third party ticket market, usually a good source of hard to find basketball tickets and other event tickets, are running low on inventory for the opening games of the NCAA tournament schedule. Premiere third party ticket vendor, SportsTicketBank.com, for example, currently lists only about 200 tickets for the Tuesday game at the University of Dayton Arena.

“That’s pretty unusual for a college sporting event,” said a site representative. “Even with championship games, we usually see numbers of tickets in the four figures. The First Four games in Dayton are attracting a lot of attention for a lot of reasons.”

One of those reasons could be the speculation that the games, which kick off March Madness, might attract a presidential visit. President Obama is well-known for his love of college ball, and usually makes an appearance with a media figure to declare his brackets for the annual NCAA tournament. This year, say some experts, is a prime time for the president to attend the opening game in Dayton.

“The first of the games takes place on the same day as the Ohio Presidential Primary,” the representative said. “And Ohio isn’t just any state – it’s a big swing state. It’s not a huge stretch to figure that some of this year’s candidates and their surrogates will be in Ohio to meet-and-greet voters. With the president’s well-known love for NCAA basketball, it’s conceivable that he’d combine a political trip to Ohio with his favorite leisure activity.”

Fans who want to be part of the opening night festivities will find that their window of opportunity to get NCAA First Four tickets is closing fast. SportsTicketBank.com notes that tickets for the Ohio NCAA game are going fast, and inventory turnover is swift.

“There are still some great tickets left, though,” the site rep said. “Including courtside seats in some of the most coveted spots in the stands.”
