NutriSavings and the National Kidney Foundation Partner to Help Consumers Take Steps Towards Kidney Disease Prevention

For National Kidney Month, employee benefit program NutriSavings announced its partnership with the National Kidney Foundation (NKF), the leading organization dedicated to the awareness, prevention, and treatment of kidney disease.

According to NKF, 1 in 3 American adults is at risk for chronic kidney disease. Those with chronic kidney disease usually do not have symptoms, which means kidney disease can go undetected until it reaches advanced stages. The National Kidney Foundation urges Americans to reduce and/or manage the risk factors for chronic kidney disease, including high blood pressure, diabetes, unhealthy weight, smoking, and taking excessive NSAID pain medications.

NutriSavings’ wellness program educates consumers and their families on proper nutrition by helping them make healthier purchasing decisions at the grocery store. Shoppers have access to a database of more than 100,000 food items, and can customize their profile to find food products that suit their health needs.

NutriSavings builds on NKF’s awareness movement to bring kidney health into the spotlight by highlighting the importance of nutrition. With NutriSavings, consumers are encouraged to shop for fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and minimally processed products that can help reduce risk factors.

“Aside from maintaining a healthy lifestyle and diet, the best way to prevent kidney disease is to be tested annually if you have diabetes, high blood pressure, are over age 60, or have a family history of kidney failure,” said Jeffrey Berns, MD, President of the National Kidney Foundation. “Of the 26 million American adults estimated to have kidney disease, most don’t know they have it. That’s why taking care of your kidneys, especially if you are at risk for kidney disease, is vital.”

Today, more than half of the U.S. adult population has at least one or more chronic diseases. This includes diabetes, the leading cause of kidney failure. As consumers become more aware of the causes of kidney disease, they can make positive behavior changes towards a healthier lifestyle.

“We’re very honored to work with the National Kidney Foundation, and we share their important mission to improve health awareness among Americans,” said Gerard Bridi, CEO at NutriSavings. “Our program has a captive audience that wants to learn how to improve healthy habits, so the National Kidney Foundation helps us target a very important pillar of their well-being: kidney health.”

NutriSavings is promoting the National Kidney Foundation by sharing health recommendations, prevention tips, and treatment of kidney disease from March 1st to March 31st in a targeted campaign to consumers.
