City of Denver Tackles Workforce Management Issues with Kronos(R)

The City and County of Denver, Colorado, has made national headlines for modernizations aimed at enhanced efficiencies, customer service, and budget savings. Strategic technology applications have played a key role in many of Denvers municipal innovations to date, and Denver recently joined other U.S. local governments such as the City of Orlando in selecting and implementing the Workforce Central® suite from Kronos®Incorporated to ensure proper federal government reimbursements, accurate time and labor tracking, and effective leave management.

Our employees and agencies will benefit from the enhanced accuracy, predictability, and access to information that Kronos provides in the arena of compensation and leave benefits, said Mayor John Hickenlooper. And our taxpayers will benefit from the reduced costs and increased efficiency and productivity the system will yield. Implementing Kronos is our latest effort to provide the best possible tools to our workforce to ensure our city government is running on all cylinders.

Automating critical processes in a public enterprise, eliminating risks

Kronos comprehensive workforce management solution enables the City of Denver to automate time and labor management, streamline payroll processing, and comply with complex pay rules, all of which reduce the hazards of inconsistent or incorrect pay practices. The solution also supports the citys management of leave programs and compliance with legislation such as the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA). Ultimately, through more satisfied employees and better resource allocation, the city will continue to deliver higher levels of service to the residents of Denver.

Taking time off, complying with legislation

The City of Denver plans to reduce misclassified leaves with the use of the Kronos solution, which gives managers the ability to run reports in real-time to check leave histories and ensure that leaves are administered properly within regulations. The ability to analyze absence trends with these labor reports results in more proactive business decisions and better tracking of labor costs. The city also anticipates that it will witness a reduction in accrued liability related to vacation and sick time due to effective tracking.

With fixed budgets, a diverse and widespread workforce, and ongoing pressure to maximize productivity, government entities such as the City of Denver need a workforce management solution which helps them operate like successful business endeavors, said Christine Carmichael, director of government and education marketing at Kronos. Kronos understands complex pay rules and how to limit exposure to liabilities, and we are experts at developing tools that maximize visibility and effectively manage employee time and labor.
