ClearPoint Alliance with Fort Lee Federal Credit Union Provides Financial Education to Military and Community

ClearPoint Credit Counseling Solutions and the Fort Lee Federal Credit Union have joined forces to provide credit counseling services to military personnel stationed near Petersburg, Virginia. “Current economic conditions have created financial challenges for many people, particularly those who are trying to juggle supporting their families and serving their country,” said Vice President of ClearPoint Credit Counseling Solutions Ann Estes. “Fort Lee Federal Credit Union saw that their members needed personalized budget and debt management advice, which is exactly the kind of help ClearPoint credit counselors can provide.”

In December, 2008, ClearPoint began offering face-to-face credit and housing counseling on post at Fort Lee. ClearPoint’s branch office at the Fort Lee Federal Credit Union is staffed by Carolyn Keys, who is certified by the National Foundation for Credit Counseling. Keys has been with ClearPoint for over six years.

“Credit unions like Fort Lee Federal enjoy a closer proximity to consumers than big banks, so they can more easily recognize when a member needs help working through a financial trouble spot,” said Estes. “We know from experience that the sooner someone who is struggling with debt gets credit counseling, the better chance we have of helping get them back on track.”

In addition to providing face-to-face credit counseling, and pre-purchase and foreclosure mitigation counseling, ClearPoint also offers a series of financial education outreach programs designed to teach consumers how to budget and improve their credit score.
