Texas Trust Credit Union is inviting teens interested in community involvement and further expanding their personal financial knowledge to join the Texas Trust Youth Advisory Council. Applications for 2012-2013 membership are now being accepted.

Texas Trust launched the Youth Advisory Council in 2011 as part of its broader financial education campaign. The program is designed to teach and equip high school students with basic financial skills to prepare them for college and beyond.

The Youth Advisory Council provides educational and student leadership opportunities for high school students. Council members participate in bi-monthly meetings in which they learn about financial education, service leadership, marketing, and career opportunities in the financial field. They will also participate in a service project and volunteer at a community event sponsored by Texas Trust. In addition, the council members serve as a sounding board for youth-oriented financial products and services provided by Texas Trust. Council members will receive a stipend for their service upon fulfilling all of their monthly requirements.

"The Council goes beyond financial education by allowing students to engage in various leadership roles during the course of the program," said Amber Danford, vice president of marketing. "Students will have opportunities to lead meetings, develop presentations, and manage Council activities."

There will be two sessions for the 2012-2013 Youth Advisory Council. The first session will run from August to December. The second session will be from January to May. Up to 20 students will be chosen to participate in each session. The application for the first session is due July 21. Applications for the second session are due by December 18.

The Texas Trust Youth Advisory Council is open to all of the credit union’s high school members as well as students attending high schools in the districts of Grand Prairie, Mansfield, Cedar Hill, Arlington, and Kennedale. Private, charter, and homeschool students living within these school districts are also eligible to join the Council.
