University of the Fraser Valley offers lateral entry to computer science students of Punjab Technical University

Directors and Principals of the 14-affiliated colleges of Punjab Technical University along with representatives of University of the Fraser Valley, Canada, and Canadian Immigration Centre.University of the Fraser Valley, Canada has entered into a tie-up with Punjab Technical University (PTU) to offer lateral entry to the computer science students.

Canada’s premiere public university in British Columbia, University of the Fraser Valley, has signed an agreement of mutual cooperation with Punjab Technical University (PTU) to benefit the computer science students.

PTU’s Vice Chancellor Rakesh Verma and Deputy Registrar Dr. Ekonkar Singh Johal informed that the collaboration was initiated by PTU’s Dean Academics Dr. Buta Singh Sidhu, enabling lateral entry in the third year of Bachelor of Computer Information System at the University of the Fraser Valley at their campus in British Columbia.

Students who have completed their Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA), Bachelor of Technology – Information Technology, or Bachelor of Technology – Computer Science Engineering from Punjab Technical University will be awarded credits by the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV), for direct admission.

UFV has shortlisted 14 PTU-affiliated colleges for lateral entry into their degree programme which include Amritsar College of Engineering & Technology, Amritsar; Aryans College of Engineering, Banur; BIS College of Engineering, Moga; Chandigarh Engineering College, Landran; CT Institute of  Engineering Management and Technology, Shahpur, Jalandhar; Doaba Institute of Engineering  & Technology Ghataur, Kharar; Gulzar College of Engineering, Libra, Khanna; Lala Lajpat Rai Institute of Engineering & Technology, Moga; Ludhiana College of Engineering  & Technology, Katani Kalan, Ludhiana; Rayat  Bahra Institute of Engineering  & BioTechnology, Sahauran, Kharar; RIMT Institute of Engineering  & Technology,  Mandi Gobindgarh; Satyam Institute of Engineering & Technology, Kotla Doom, Amritsar; Sardar Sukhjinder Singh Engineering & Technology College, Gurdaspur; and Sri Sukhmani Institute of Engineering  & Technology, Derabassi.

The global exposure, coupled with the effectively crafted curriculum, will expose PTU students to the latest concepts in the field and give them an edge in the domestic and global job market, Dr Johal added.

Ravi Phillips of Canada’s University of the Fraser Valley informed that this is a more structured career pathway for the students of PTU who not only would get credits for the studies completed here but also acquire degree from one of the most prestigious universities of Canada.

Ravi Phillips further explained that the collaboration would help both the universities to explore further opportunities for academic exchange, faculty collaboration and shared research besides providing study-abroad opportunities for the Canadian students at PTU.

UFV’s recruiting associate, Canada-based Andy Burn, Director of Canadian Immigration Centre, who facilitated the signing of cooperation between the two institutes stated that under this program students would be eligible to get 3-years post-graduation work permit issued by the Citizenship and Immigration Canada.
