Set in the violent and power-hungry Los Angeles drug underworld of 1985, The Arbiters is a story of love at first sight, rebirth, and spiritual awakening.
PRLog - June 21, 2015 - TAMPA, Fla. -- Local author Pete Conrad launched his third novel, "The Arbiters," at BookCon 2015, a renowned publishing industry event held at the Javits Center in New York City on May 30 and 31, 2015. With the novel now available in print and e-book on Amazon.com and his website, www.suicidalflower.com, Conrad is slated to participate in the Barnes & Noble July release event of Harper Lee's latest book in Tampa, and will also be represented at the New England Author's Expo on July 29, 2015 in Danvers, MA.

About BookCon, with its 18,000 attendees over a two-day period, Conrad said, "It was a great experience. It was refreshing to be amongst such a diverse group of avid readers — many of them eager to discover emerging authors such as myself."

"The Arbiters" is inspired by Henryk Sienkiewicz’s 1895 tome, "Quo Vadis?" Marcus, an enforcer in Los Angeles’ largest drug cartel, is gravely wounded while on cartel business in Colombia. While recuperating back in LA, Marcus falls in love with Sabrina, the adopted daughter of an ex-cartel member. When Sabrina doesn’t reciprocate Marcus’ overbearing exultations of love, he enlists the guidance of his seemingly shrewd Uncle Sein, the cartel’s second-in-command, to assist him in navigating his feelings. Sein, who also suffers from his own emotional deficiencies, is eager to help his nephew, and concocts a plan to bring Marcus and Sabrina together.

With one hasty decision, Sein ignites a series of events that results in colossal misunderstandings, unimaginable jealousy, and deadly consequences. As Marcus and Sein are forced to confront the brutal aftermath, each man embarks upon a personal, spiritual journey. Along the way, they both discover the love that exists in their hearts, and perhaps, how to make peace with their inner demons.

One early reviewer notes, "...Exciting scenarios, with several twists and turns, and a great set of unique characters. [The Arbiters] would make a great mafia movie or mini-series. There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of five stars. "

Conrad has previously published "Going Home" and "The Suicide Flowers," and considers his work to be plausible, commercial fiction. His stories feature "funny, flawed, and familiar" characters who often face difficult choices and circumstances. In addition to being a full-time writer of novels, short stories, and screenplays for the last ten years, the New England native and current resident of Tampa serves as the Director of Communications for the National Tutoring Association, and enjoys playing bass guitar while his Great Dane and muse, Eros, watches on.

Conrad is available for interviews, media appearances, and book signings.
