PRLog - June 26, 2015 - HOUSTON -- Houston based, Avalanche Food Group (AFG), is partnering up with local organization, Feed the Future Forward this Saturday, June 27 from 11am-2pm at five Twin Peaks Locations to create a fund for children that are unable to pay for lunch.

Kenny Thompson, Founder of Feed the Future Forward, began this journey by paying off negative lunch account balances at an elementary school in Spring Branch ISD, and has since started a movement that has spread to multiple school districts.

Darin Crawford, director of food service for Cy-Fair ISD, said every year the department has a number of delinquent accounts for school lunches. “This is a problem that exists nationwide,” Crawford said. “It’s a topic of conversation, but you don’t hear a lot of solutions.”

When accounts are not paid, the district has to use educational funds to cover the expense, he added.  Some schools have additional funds set aside to help out – but other campuses do not.

Thompson became aware of the problem when one of the several students he mentors was served a cold cheese sandwich at an elementary school in Spring Branch ISD.  The student’s parents had not paid their bill, and he was served a subpar lunch as a result.

“Everybody I talk to knows this is a problem and knows it needs to be fixed,” Thompson said. “We need to take care of our kids in Texas. If we can be a model as a state we can hopefully eliminate this around the country. I am very excited to partner with Avalanche Food Group and Twin Peaks for this fundraiser that will ultimately help many students here in Houston.”

Kenny then began with a $1000 donation, which started a trend and has continued to grow ever since.  Around the same time, Thompson heard the story on national news about students in Utah who had their lunches yanked away due to delinquent accounts.

“Here at AFG we are very passionate about being involved in the communities we have restaurants in and want to be able to give back to great causes like this,” says Ricky Rosa, Co-Founder of Avalanche Food Group.  “No child should ever go hungry and we hope this weekend is a huge success to raise a large amount of funds for Kenny and his foundation.”

AFG owns multiple Twin Peaks locations including Twin Peaks on Kirby, Shenandoah, Kirkwood, Webster, Hwy 290, Corpus Christi and one store in Indianapolis, Indiana.  The Rosa brothers, John, Joe and Ricky, founders of Avalanche Food Group, are looking forward to expanding the Twin Peaks Brand and expanding into new cities across the state of Texas and nationally.

The Avalanche Food Group currently owns seven Twin Peaks locations.  Twin Peaks currently has 71 locations nationally with plans for an additional 15 locations before the end of the year.
