NEW YORK - Aug. 19, 2015 - PRLog -- On the eve of World Humanitarian Day, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon was drawing attention to the 100 million people affected by natural disasters, conflict, hunger and disease, whose needs are far outstripping the capacity to help them, but he was also reminding the international community that “each one of us can make a difference” and “create a more humane world.”

The newly appointed Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and UN Emergency Relief Coordinator Stephen O'Brien, echoed that sentiment, stressing that, as part of the global team, the UN seeks to deliver humanitarian assistance to meet the fundamental basic needs of saving lives and of making sure the recipients can live without vulnerability.

Director of Relations of Blue Horizon Charitable Foundation Katarina Novakova attended the event on behalf of the foundation.

After the event, she said, "You don't have to go far to find people who need help...anyone can take steps in their daily lives to be a hero to someone. We can all help make the world a better place. Several years ago, I met Dr. Brian Mehling and was inspired by his humanitarian activities. So much so, that I was also inspired to join the BHCF team and work side by side with Dr. Mehling on all of his extraordinary efforts that impact the lives of so many people.”

Ms. Novakova also participated in the #ShareHumanity campaign. “By donating your social media feeds for just one day you can promote humanitarian action and help to give a voice to the voiceless by sharing their stories of crisis, hope and resilience.”

The Blue Horizon Charitable Foundation is dedicated to increasing the awareness of global inequalities in healthcare, as well as providing charitable medical care and training to adults and children in impoverished areas. The foundation raises capital in order to support medical centers and clinics by providing medicines vital to basic human survival and by performing advanced medical treatments otherwise not accessible to certain geographic regions. BHCF also supports children around the world who have been orphaned as a result of disease and/or war. In order to raise awareness of these situations, BHCF produces documentary films that bring much needed attention to the plight of those with limited or no access to healthcare. The provision of these resources to less developed areas enables the medically underserved to benefit from high quality care and treatment.
