This will be the first co-ministering opportunity for the Schmidts, married ministers with two small children who are relocating from their former home in Massachusetts. On the benefits of co-ministry, the couple states:
“There are tremendous advantages to co-ministry: we can sometimes be in two places at once! We provide two different pastoral presences (for instance, if someone would really prefer to see a woman about a pastoral concern, or vice versa), and we have two perspectives to offer on issues. There is also the advantage for us that we have a built-in colleague to bounce ideas with and share in all aspects of our work.”
Rev. Kristin Schmidt holds a Master of Divinity degree from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington D. C. She has served congregations in Houston, TX and Boston, MA. Rev. Christian Schmidt is a graduate of the University of Houston and Andover Newton Theological School in Massachusetts. He recently served as minister of the First Parish Church in Malden, MA.
UUCCH Board of Trustees President Rob MacIver notes that the UUCCH congregation is excited about working with two ministers. “This is our first time working with co-ministers, and we’re looking forward to benefitting from the insights and energies of these two experienced ministers.”
The two pastors will both preach and introduce themselves to the UUCCH congregation during the church’s Living Waters service on Sunday, September 13, 2015. They welcome the community or those seeking a religious home to attend UUCCH Visitor Sunday on September 27th.
Founded in 1956, UUCCH is a 330 person congregation located on 17 acres of property in Cherry Hill. UUCCH is a non-creedal, progressive congregation with a liberal-religion focus. The church runs active community outreach and social responsibility programs, and is a member of the Joseph Priestley District of the Unitarian Universalist Association.
