Michael Tornabe Bus Discussions about Road Train

Mr. Michael Tornabe demystifies the semi-autonomous workings of the road train concept

YONKERS, NY, May 03, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- "If you're not too thrilled by the prospect of a never-stopping train, then perhaps its rad equivalent will pique your interest," technology maven and entrepreneur Michael Tornabe said as he made his way to address transportation industry stakeholders at a recent New York meet up.

"The basis of this concept is quite interesting. The idea is that cars that are headed in the same direction would join in with other cars, creating a 'road train'. Early versions of this technology have been created by researchers in Europe, and include a lead vehicle that will be followed by other cars", he illustrated.

Explaining how the vehicles would move in tandem, Mr. Michael Tornabe explained that subsequent vehicles would mimic the lead car's movement using installed communications and imaging technology to result in a train of separate cars but moving together as one. Vehicles would be free to join and leave the train as desired.

"Road transportation is the most common form of transport for non-commercial journeys - more than 80 percent. This creates a strain on the road transportation network, the results of which we experience in our own city and elsewhere worldwide, especially during rush periods/seasons," Michael Tornabe said, somberly.

The transportation technology expert and entrepreneur explained that to be the reason behind this project, funded by the European Union. He expressed hope that such trains would improve road utilization and enable better traffic flow, especially in areas prone to traffic congestion and resultant traffic jams.

The technology, according to Mr. Michael Tornabe, can be used for vehicles of any kind, from small passenger cars to buses and trucks. However, the lead vehicle is carefully chosen and maneuvered by a professional driver.

It would be the lead driver's job to keep track of vehicles that are behind him/her. Drivers of those vehicles would not be in charge of driving their cars while on the road train; they could even use their hands to read a book or catch up on work during the journey.

"We're eager to see where this technology will take us. Now that we have the prototypes already being tested in various parts of Europe," Michael Tornabe said in conclusion.
