Bellucci Premium Agrees with Advice to Check for Authenticity on Labels of Extra Virgin Olive Oil Before Purchasing

Bellucci Premium comments on an article that urges consumers to check labels on bottles of olive oil for authentic seals before purchasing.

According to a Life Hacker article published on September 21st titled "Check For A Seal Of Approval Before Buying Expensive Olive Oil," you should always check for a seal of approval for the region where the bottle of olive oil you are interested in purchasing is from.

The article explains how many olive oils from California are often tested by the California Olive Oil Council. This gives the oils a certification or a seal of approval after certain tests are conducted and the olive oil meets the proper standards. The seal is given to bottles of olive oil that are extra virgin and contain no other additives or oils. According to the article, other councils such as the Australian Olive Association exist around the globe.

If there is no seal on a product, the article recommends looking for a harvest date on the bottle. No harvest date is a bad sign. Also, check for where the olives were harvested. The article says, "The fewer sources of olives for your bottle, the less time the olives spend in transit, being handled, packaged, and processed."

"Unfortunately there is an industry wide issue with mislabeling olive oil," she says. "Many brands label their olive oil 'extra virgin' when really it is cut with other types of oils, like canola or seed oil.
