PRLog - Jan. 6, 2014 - NEW YORK -- KeepLock Entertainment is pleased to announce that Respect The Jux, the wildly popular, semi-autobiographical novel written by Frank C. Matthews, will be made into a major motion picture. The movie will be executive produced by Matthews and Ron Elliot.

Shooting for the film has already begun and is taking place in New York, New Jersey and Jamaica, respectively.

Originally published by Simon and Schuster in 2010, the novel is centered on a young man named Cat who is left in Jamaica by his mother at the age of eleven when she immigrates to the United States. In her absence, Cat becomes a member of “The Order,” a local gang his father once ruled.

Corrupted, criminal minded, and accustomed to the better things in life Cat arrives in the United States.  Living with his family in a small apartment in the ghettos of Brooklyn, NY, he becomes obsessed with obtaining his vision of the American dream: money, women, a big house, and fast cars. For the sake of his mother, Cat attempts to do things the right way by attending and completing high school. He joins the army and fights in the war on terror. After being discharged, Cat returns home and learns that his beloved mother has a life-threatening disease. Unable to work and without proper insurance she is unable to pay for treatment leaving the responsibility up to Cat.

Cat goes back to what he knows and instinctively commits his first robbery in the US. Cat is then driven to incorporate other players in order to obtain his American Dream. He forms "The Order" based on the pillars of the gang he once belonged to in his native land.

Respect The Jux has sold over 300,000 copies worldwide and its impact and success has inspired several songs and left fans rallying for a sequel, much to the delight of its creator Frank C Matthews.

“I am very happy for the opportunity to bring “Respect The Jux” to the big screen,” author Frank Matthews says. “This book has had an amazing impact on my life and I hope to bring that to large audiences and impact them as well.”

Keep Lock Entertainment will release a casting announcement in the coming months.

Respect The Jux is slated for release in the Spring of 2014.

About Frank C. Matthews

Author Frank Matthews is a native of Brooklyn, NY. During the 1990s, Matthews' dreams came to a halt when he was lured away by the drug trade, landing him behind bars. He spent the majority of his time reading books, which awakened the writer in Matthews, and he began translating his own experiences of life on the streets into stories. Matthews began writing stories that he categorized as "true fiction," a fictional take on real events from an author who has experienced them first hand. Having written his first book, entitled Respect the Jux, Matthews knew he had two options: return to the streets or take his gift of writing "true fiction" to the masses.

He knew there was an audience that would relate to and embrace "true fiction," so he self-published Respect the Jux himself. Over 20,000 copies of the book were quickly sold, peaking the interest of his current publisher Simon & Shuster who released the book nationwide in September 2010.

The book catapulted Matthews into the sphere typically reserved for literary greats, while capturing the attention of everyone from rappers Jay Z, Ghostface Killah and 50 Cent (who rapped on Lloyd Banks' single "Hands Up": "You know when you party with crooks you gotta learn to Respect the Jux”), to Vado, Jae Millz and Maino to literary powerhouses such as bestselling author and publisher Karen Hunter. Matthews is currently preparing release of his second novel, entitled Bury Me In It.
