PRLog - Feb. 4, 2014 - HOUSTON -- Kathleen McMordie, founder of Texas Swim Academy (TSA) in Katy, Texas, has earned Lead Instructor honors from the Infant Aquatics Certification program. Certification culminates a period of intensive study and marks TSA as a center for swim instruction leadership.

Lead Instructor Certification in Infant Aquatics is offered to select infant swim professionals as part of the Lead Instructor Team initiative and includes rigorous instruction. Kathleen traveled to Atlanta for the in-water portion of instruction, which comprised intensive mentoring in the skills required to teach apprentice instructors basic infant water survival skills including rollover breathing, floating, breath control, propulsion and transitional stroke development, as well as related applied child development and behavioral techniques.

“Kathleen has been teaching for 10 years and has spent the past year being mentored to train instructors,” says Infant Aquatics Lead Instructor Team member Judy Heumann. “After undergoing 10 days of scrutiny, there was no question that she possesses all of the qualities, knowledge and skills to become a lead instructor for Infant Aquatics.”

“I'm thrilled to earn my Lead Instructor Certification,” says Kathleen. “Not only was this a personal challenge to continue my education in the field, it is a professional achievement that elevates the quality of swim instruction at Texas Swim Academy. I am excited to begin working with apprentice instructors to expand our ability to make even more infants safe and confident in the water.”

The Infant Aquatics Certification program is the product of input from child swim professionals across the country, working together to apply their collective decades of experience in the field to formulate the most effective teaching methodology. Certified instructors are also required to renew yearly certification in CPR and first aid.
