Edmunds, born on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia but based in the Washington, DC area, explained that while his group had long been looking to work in Africa on tourism, supply chain efficiency and energy, it is the engagement of his firm to support the upcoming U.S. – Africa Energy Ministerial (AEM) to be held June 3-4 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, that has finally opened the door to Africa.
“We are extremely pleased to have been engaged to support the effort and our track record of success in energy was noted as a reason we were brought aboard,” Edmunds commented following his return from a recent trip to Ethiopia. The Edmunds Group is advising Leadership Africa USA and the US Department of Energy on the upcoming event, and is focusing on the opportunities and role for the private sector in the power and energy sectors throughout the continent.
“We view this engagement as a first step and already are fielding calls on providing business development and trade facilitation support to entities in Africa as well as others interested in entering the space,” Edmunds continued. “As an emerging market practice, we are extremely pleased to add Africa to the regions that we already cover - the Caribbean, Latin America and Asia”, he concluded.
The AEM will focus on the theme of “Catalyzing Sustainable Energy Growth in Africa” and provide a forum for major announcements and commitments that support energy development throughout Africa.
